‘Safer’ – A Play by Sarah Jane Dickenson followed by cast Q&A

1 August, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm BST

‘‘If I hadn’t got out of my car that day, I would not, absolutely not be here strutting my rugby fit bear body shit, wearing f**k-right-off amazing dangly earrings on the streets of Hull’.

For Butterfly Boy – sitting alone in a Fiat 500 outside a rugby club in the pouring rain, somehow the reasons for joining a gay and inclusive rugby team didn’t seem that apparent. But once in the changing room the fear evaporates and a whole new world opens up.

Based on true stories Safer is hard hitting, tender and truthful but doesn’t forget the funny and absurd as it explores what it is to be part of a truly inclusive sports team; whatever you are, choose to be, on whatever day, whatever happens, you can find your tribe.

Sarah Jane Dickenson is a playwright who has frequently been commissioned to write plays with community groups and organizations, co-producing and sharing their stories on stage and screen. Recent plays such as CBA, That Berlin Moment and REF! have been performed or shown in a variety of spaces from traditional theatres to film festivals and sports club bars.
