Routes and Rainbows: LGBTQ+ Asylum Seekers Panel and Q&A

29 July, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm BST

Free

More than half of applications from LGBTQ+ asylum seekers coming to the UK are unsuccessful, according to the most recent data. Just over 1,000 claims were made on a basis of sexual orientation in 2020, representing 3% of the total number of asylum seeker applications made in the UK.

The stories of those navigating this arduous legal process are still rarely heard. In this special event supported by Journey Asylum Seekers and Micro Rainbow – two organisations that provide dedicated support to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in Birmingham – attendees will learn about the often bleak experiences of these applicants in their homelands, the challenging journeys they undertake to find freedom, and what they discover when they arrive in this country.

Join us on Friday evening as we explore this complex and emotional issue.
